Rory McIlroy will get the chance to tell his Masters story once and for all – and he’ll have a national audience to share it with.
On Wednesday morning, Amazon Prime announced Rory McIlroy: The Masters awaita new documentary film project to be released on March 30, just days before McIlroy returns to Augusta National for the first time as champion.
While McIlroy’s media presence has increased in the wake of his globe-trotting victory at Augusta National, the Grand Slam winner has yet to participate in the type of interview typical of a sporting event of its importance. Masters await appears to be McIlroy’s attempt to accomplish that goal while also maintaining a level of editorial input through his production company, Firethorn, which is listed as a co-producer in the film’s press release.
A trailer released for the new project shows McIlroy’s career through the lens of the Masters, starting with his infamous collapse in 2011 and continuing to his final Grand Slam triumph in 2025. McIlroy is the only interviewee featured in the trailer, which also includes an impressive set of footage of his April film.
Amazon Prime picked up distribution rights to the project, which will serve as original content for the broadcaster in addition to its new broadcast deal with Augusta National. Prime will carry coverage of the Masters for the first time in 2026, adding two hours of early week television coverage to the tournament’s current television cornucopia and giving the Masters a full broadcast partner for the first time in tournament history.
The new project is also being produced by Everyone Else, the production company responsible for the 2011 Oscar-winning documentary Invinciblewho attended the Manassas Tigers high school football team in Memphis. Drea Cooper, who has worked with Everyone Else on a series of documentary projects, is set to direct the project.
Beyond the March 30 release date, the press release did not specify a release time or the length of the film. You can watch the full trailer of the film below.
