Luxury car manufacturer McLaren introduces brand of golf equipment

of the worlds of golf and Formula 1 racing I just got a lot closer.

McLaren, the parent company of its eponymous racing team, known for winning 23 Formula One World Championships and over 200 Formula One Grands Prix, on Monday announced its first foray into golf equipment with the launch of McLaren Golf.

“McLaren Golf is a high-end, engineering-led enterprise that goes beyond equipment,” McLaren Golf CEO Neil Howie said in a press release. “We’re building a brand based on McLaren’s high-performance DNA and putting it into a new sporting arena. We’ve hired some of the best minds in engineering and combined them with key figures from the world of golf to create an innovation-led company that pushes the boundaries of what players can expect from their gear. We can’t wait to see this year come to life.”

The announcement is the latest sign of a thriving relationship between golf and Formula 1 competitions.

The Netflix PGA Tour documentary Full Swing comes from the same producers as the highly acclaimed Formula 1: Drive to Survive documentary and follows the same format.

Many F1 drivers, such as McLaren’s Lando Norris, are keen players, with Norris, along with three other drivers, taking part in Netflix Cup in 2023a crossover golf match highlighting the two Netflix docuseries.

There are also obvious similarities between automotive and racing design and golf club productionfrom the extreme focus on speed and aerodynamics to the strict adherence to conforming regulations.

“At McLaren Racing, we are driven by performance and the pursuit of excellence in everything we do,” McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said in the release. “Taking our standard-setting engineering from the grid onto the golf course feels like a natural step and one that opens up the McLaren brand to a new audience.”

No additional details were included in Monday’s announcement, although the brand promises the official launch of the McLaren Golf and its first products on April 29.
