Moto2: Agius took the mark in Thailand

Senna Agius secured pole position for Saturday’s Moto2 World Championship qualifier at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand. Riding his Liqui Moly Dynavolt Inact GP Kalex on Pirelli Control tyres, the Australian rider clocked a 1:34.576 to top the 27-rider field.

Izan Guevara was second on the Blue Cru Pramac Yamaha Boscoscuro with a 1:34.604.

Daniel Holgado took the third and final spot in the CFmoto Inde Aspar Team Calex with a 1:34.625.

The row-two qualifiers included QJMOTOR Pont Group MSI’s Ivan Ortola (1:34.693), Syntax Group SPDRS Celestino Vitetti (1:34.746) and Red Bull KTM’s Ajo Colin Weijer (1:34.788).

American Joe Roberts finished Saturday afternoon’s qualifying with the 25th best time of 1:35.505 for his sole sponsor, American Racing Team Calex.

More from the MotoGP press release:

The Australian beat Guevara and Holgado by less than a tenth in Moto2.

For the first time in his Moto2 career, Senna Agius (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP), the Australian burns from pole position when the lights go out after setting a 1:34.576.

Agius left it until the closing stages to grab a dream first pole in the class, splitting the three by 0.049s at the end of the 15-minute dash. Ivan Ortola (QJMOTOR – PONT GRUP – MSI) leads row 4 and is tenth off pole, with Celestino VTT (SYNC GROUP SPDRS TEAM) and Colin Weir (Red Bull KTM Ajo) completing sixth on the grid.

After finishing practice on Friday, Manuel González (Licky Molly Dynavolt Intact GP) was forced to settle for P7. After the Spaniard won the Thailand GP and came through the jungle in Q1, David Alonso (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team) saved P10 by qualifying himself for victory – and will be a chance on Sunday. The Colombian will start one place behind Mario Aji (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia), and one place ahead of rookie Angel Piqueras (QJMOTOR – PONT GRUP – MSI).
