Manuel Gonzalez led Moto2 World Championship practice on Friday afternoon at the Chang International Circuit, Thailand. Riding a Liqui Moly Dynavolt Inact GP Kalex on Pirelli control tires, the Spaniard lapped the 2.83-mile (4.55 km) course in 1:34.501 to top 28 riders and break his own all-time lap record of 2025 of 1:34.591.
Alex Eskrigg was second best with a time of 1:34.625 for the Clint Racing team.
Izan Guevara was third fastest on the Blue Cru Pramac Yamaha Boscoscuro in 1:34.686.
American Joe Roberts finished 16th in Friday afternoon’s practice with a best time of 1:35.134 for his sole sponsor, American Racing Team Calex.
More, from the MotoGP press release:
A brief rain shower at the end of Moto2 practice sees drama in the top 14 races, with big names missing out on the season’s opening Friday.
2025 Thai Grand Prix winner Manuel Gonzalez (Licky Molly Dynavolt Intact GP) topped a rain-hit Moto2 practice session on Friday in the season opener. Pre-race Alex Eskrig (KLINT Racing Team) and last year’s Valencia GP winner Izan Guevara (BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2) split the top three by 0.185s, with González setting a new all-time lap record – 1:34.501. However, it was a disappointing Day 1 for Friday morning table leader David Alonso (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team).
The Colombian’s practice ended in P22 as rapid rain in Sector 1 meant that for some it was impossible to improve when it mattered most, as Turn 1 unfortunately caught the unlucky Adrian Huertas (Italtrans Racing Team).

Alonso will compete in Q1 with the full Moto2 race winners, Alonso Lopez (ITALJET Gresini Moto2), Joe Roberts (US Fanatics Only), Tony Arbolino (REDS Fantic Racing), Denise Onku (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) and Turkish teammate Aaron Canet. In other words: stacked Q1 line.
Daniel Holgado (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team) and Mario Aji (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) are two riders who should not worry about Q1 on Saturday afternoon. The 2025 Rookie of the Year and Indonesian finished P4 and P5 on Day 1 in Thailand, while Australian Senna Agius (Licky Molly Dynavolt Intact GP) was sixth fastest.
Angel Piqueras (QJMOTOR – Pont Grup – MSI) got his rookie Moto2 season off to a great start on Friday with a P13 finish, meaning the Spaniard heads straight to Moto2 pole position at 14:05 local time, with Q1 going green at 13:40.
