More seats, more spectators for Birmingham 2026


Due to unprecedented demand, extra seating will be added to the European Athletics Championships at Alexander Stadium from 10-16 August.

Following strong early interest in this summer’s European Athletics Championships, organizers today confirmed that extra seating will be installed at the Alexander Stadium, allowing more fans than ever before to see Europe’s best athletes competing for continental glory.

Demand for tickets has exceeded all expectations, with the Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening sessions already sold out and many other sessions closing in.

To ensure more supporters can be part of this landmark moment for the West Midlands and athletics, the increased capacity means each session will go on general sale on Wednesday 4 March at 10am.

Fans can secure priority entry before the crowds by signing up for the 24-hour presale on Monday, March 2 at . Birmingham26.com.

The European Athletics Championships will bring world-class athletes from across the continent to Birmingham from 10-16 August 2026. With the European titles available, the competition will become one of the most exciting and prestigious sporting events of the year.

Sprinter Jarnell Hughes, who competed in Birmingham 2022, added: “Anyone who ran here in the summer of 2022 will never forget the buzz. When the packed stadium stops behind the British athletes, the atmosphere is electric; it lifts you up in a way that’s hard to describe. Knowing that the stands will be bigger and the UK can expect an even bigger fan next August. Feel that roar again at the European Championship.”

  • Tickets for all sessions, including the high-demand weekend evening sessions, will go back on General Sale on Wednesday 4 March at 10am.
  • Fans can secure early access to tickets by signing up for an exclusive presale that opens Monday, March 2 at 10:00am.
