Sinclair Johnson is focused on the USATF Indoors. Four Questions with the American record holder in the mile.

Sinclair Johnson Is the 2022 USATF outdoor 1500m champion and has represented the USA at the World Championships in Athletics three times outdoors and once indoors. Last July she set the American mile record of 4:16.32 and in December the road mile record of 4:21.66, and she has a 1500m personal best of 3:56.75.

Sinclair Johnson is sponsored by HOKA and coached by her fiancé, Craig Novak.

Special thanks to Jeff Benjamin for this interview, #3 in the USATF preview series.

1) How is your training going and how happy are you with your season so far?

Sinclair Johnson. “Training is going well. I’m in a good place going into this next weekend. So far I have been quite satisfied with my closed speeches. Millrose was the only race I wasn’t too happy with, but it forced us to fix what we needed to in training.”

Sinclair Johnson. “Of course. I think the outdoor season is what you want to do this year. For me, it’s like improving on my 800m and 1500m PRs, and trying to qualify for the final world championships.”

3) As a previous visitor, how do you like the Ocean Breeze facility?

Sinclair Johnson. “I like Ocean Breeze. It has a nice track outside to warm up and the track feels pretty fast.”

4) Which event are you going to attend and do you have a pre-planned strategy?

Sinclair Johnson. “I’ll be in the 1500m and I do have a strategy, but I’d be a fool to let it be known before the race, haha.”
