Erik ten Hag’s future will be discussed at key Man Utd meeting

Erik ten Hag’s future as Manchester United manager will be discussed by the club’s top brass during a key meeting on Tuesday.

The red devils have done their thing the worst start to a league season since 1989 and the Dutchman has been defiant when asked about his continued role in charge of the team. The club is also said to be reluctant to sack former Ajax boss because of the ’embarrassment’ that sacking him would cause just two months into the new campaign.

Speculation about his future refuses to let up, however, and The Athletic Ten Hag’s job in the hot seat at Old Trafford will be discussed, with co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Joel Glazer attending a meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting in London is the latest in a series of monthly meetings and not just about Ten Hag. It has been in the paper for some time, with INEOS representatives Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean Claude-Blanc joined by CEO Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth, technical director Jason Wilcox, finance director Roger Bell and director of operations Collette Roche.

The agenda will cover the latest developments in united and his future plans, including at Old Trafford, but it is understood that the form of the team is usually a talking point that shapes wider talking points and Ten Hag’s position is expected to be discussed as a coach as part of that.

A number of alternative managers have been linked with the job, with Thomas Tuchel one of those targets. Reports have revealed that United made contact the former Bayern Munich and Chelsea manager last summer before the decision was made to extend Ten Hag’s contract.

Ratcliffe had deferred responsibility when asked if the 13-time Premier League champions could sack the 54-year-old, claiming it is not their decision.

United sit 14th in the top flight after their goalless draw with Aston Villa on Sunday and have drawn their opening two Europa League games in uninspiring fashion.
