Katie Moon talks about competing in the World Championships.

How do you describe the amazing Kathy Moon?

Let’s start with some medals.

In 2021, Katie Moon won the pole vault at the postponed 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a distance of 4.90 meters.

In 2024, Katie Moon won a silver medal in the pole vault at the Paris Olympics with a distance of 4.85 meters.

Kate has three outdoor world championship gold medals.

In 2022, Katie Moon led the US gold and silver rush in the pole vault with a leap of 4.85 meters in Eugene, Oregon.

In 2023 in Budapest, Hungary, Katie Moon shared the title with Nina Kennedy at 4.90m.

In 2025, Katie Moon returned to the Tokyo Olympic Stadium with 60-65,000 fans for one night and won the 3rd gold medal with a jump of 4.90 meters, capturing the “three-peat”.

Indoors, Katie won a silver medal at Belgrade 2022 with a distance of 4.75 meters.

In 2024 in Glasgow, Katie won the bronze medal at the 2024 Glasgow World Championships.

Katie Moon cleared 4.95 meters (16’3″) outdoors on June 26, 2026 at the US Olympic Trials. Katie is 5th on the all-time list of the greatest women’s outdoor pole vaulters.

Katie cleared 4.94 meters (16’2.5″) indoors on February 11, 2023 in New York City.

Katie Moon has a 100m PB (2020) of 11.91 seconds and a 60m PB of 7.93 seconds.

This interview, one of my favorites, was done in September 2025, right after Katie Moon took the gold and Sandi Morris won the silver, giving the USA gold and silver in the pole vault.

I wanted to hear from Katie how hard it is to win a medal and how she stays focused during the competition. A lesson everyone should learn.
