The match on 15 February 2026 saw fifth-placed Real Betis travel to sixteenth-placed Mallorca. Betis arrived in good form, looking to consolidate their European qualification hopes. Mallorca wanted to climb away from the lower sections of the table.
The visiting team quickly prevailed, despite defender Diego Llorente’s early yellow card in the 16th minute. Just two minutes later, Real Betis broke the deadlock. Abdessamad Ezzalzouli took advantage of a quick counter-attack, finishing from close range.
Mallorca responded with intensity, but their efforts were met by a resolute defence. Samu Costa received a yellow card for Mallorca in the 21st minute as the gens were slightly fired up. Aitor Ruibal also entered the Betis referee’s book in the 44th minute.
As the first half ended, Real Betis extended their lead. In the 45th minute, Cédric Bakambu doubled his lead. Antony provided the assist, setting up Bakambu for a crucial goal just before the break.
With a two-goal difference, Mallorca faced a strong challenge heading into the second half. Coach Javier Aguirre probably demanded more offensive intent and defensive solidity. Real Betis, under Manuel Pellegrini, wanted to maintain control and secure the three points.
The second half started with substitutions for both teams. Manu Morlanes was booked for Mallorca in the 50th minute. Real Betis goalkeeper Álvaro Valles then received a yellow card for delaying the game in the 55th minute.
Mallorca’s frustration grew and Vedat Muriqi was shown a yellow card for a tackle in the 59th minute. Pablo Maffeo then followed him into the book just two minutes later for tripping an opponent. The referee had an intense time with cautions.
Finally, the home side found a breakthrough in the 66th minute. Vedat Muriqi pulled one back for Mallorca, which rekindled hopes of a comeback. Sergi Darder provided the crucial assist, injecting belief into the home support.
Despite Mallorca’s late push, Real Betis’ defense held firm under pressure. Mallorca struggled to create clear chances to equalise. Betis brought in new players, including Sergi Altimira, to strengthen the midfield and defence.
Real Betis’ victory was based on efficiency, converting 2.1 expected goals (xG) from 17 total shots. Mallorca, with 65% possession, managed only 0.99 xG in 13 total shots. Betis had 8 shots on goal compared to Mallorca’s 3.
