Si Woo Kim is 6-5 in his Presidents Cup career, but his impact goes far beyond a barely above .500 record.
As the International Team seeks its first Presidents Cup win since 1998, Si Woo Kim brings something to the table that no one else on the International roster does. The South Korean star provides the energy for the international team. He shut out the Quail Hollow crowd as he beat Justin Thomas in singles in 2022, and then did Steph Curry’s famous “Night Night” celebration after a chip-in during a 2024 match that he and Tom Kim went on to lose.
For 2026 international captain Geoff Ogilvy, there is no doubt that Kim is a vital part of the International Team’s hopes of winning this autumn in Medina.
“There are players who get better at these things and there are players who don’t,” Ogilvy said GOLF’s Subpar Podcast co-hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz. “He’s always getting better. He loves that moment. He loves that stage. His best stuff has been in the Presidents Cup. You find a way to get guys like that on the team.”
Ogilvy noted how many international teams were fed off of Si Woo’s play and tricks in both 2022 and 2024. What he brings is infectious.
“Everybody feels better when Si Woo is there playing for you,” Ogilvy said. “You just know he’s going to give it his all. The craziness that can come in an individual tournament (for him), it just doesn’t. He’s the best.”
Kim has gone T11-T6-T2-T3 to open the 2026 season, so he’s well on his way to punching his ticket to the 2026 team. But even if his game falters, he looks like a safe bet to be on the roster this fall. The international team needs what only he can bring.
