Football pundit Gary Neville has claimed that Manchester United do not want to sack manager Erik ten Hag.
The former Man United defender made the claim on Sky Sports while discussing the Dutch manager’s future after a poor start to the season.
The Red Devils have picked up just eight points from their opening seven games of the season, their worst start to a Premier League campaign.
Not only has their form in the Premier League been poor, but in the Europa League as well, they have failed to win both games they have played so far this season.
Ten Hag have been linked with an exit from the club after a disastrous start to the season, but Neville believes the club are not considering sacking the manager.
he said Sky Sports:
“They will definitely not want to do anything this season. No club wants to fire a manager in the middle of the season.
“It’s not just a reflection on the manager, it’s a reflection on them. Although INEOS have come into the club in recent months to take control of the football, and Dan Ashworth and Omar Berrada have only been there for a couple of months, the blame cannot be laid at their door. .
“They will need two or three years to sort it out. But the club made the decision to keep Ten Hag in the summer, so they won’t want to reverse that decision in the first six or seven games. They just have to wait (that (something happens) in the next few weeks, perhaps through a reset, a time of reflection, a bit of planning.”
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Ten Hag, but his team has not achieved positive results this season.
They sit in the bottom half of the Premier League standings after scoring just five goals this season.
So far nothing has worked for them, not even the new signings they brought to the club this summer after spending a lot in the transfer market.
Erik ten Hag has not lived up to expectations at Man United
It is Ten Hag’s third season at the club and the manager has struggled each season, despite winning two trophies in the process.
Their form in the league has not improved and after finishing eighth last season, the manager has been unable to make any adjustments to the problems they face.
Ten Hag has a mountain to climb at the club and it gets tougher with each passing week.
