Manchester United held to a dramatic 1-1 draw against West Ham as Benjamin Šeško’s stoppage-time equalizer salvaged a point at the London Stadium.
The Premier League clash on 10 February 2026 saw a determined West Ham side, struggling close to the relegation zone in 18th place, host a Manchester United side aiming for a top-four finish. United, who currently sit in fourth place, arrived in fine form, while the Hammers looked to turn their season around with a vital performance at home.
The first half unfolded as a tactical battle, with Manchester United dominating possession. They dictated play from midfield, patiently building attacks. However, West Ham’s defense remained well organized and disciplined throughout the opening 45 minutes.
The home team, despite seeing less of the ball, looked compact and dangerous on the counterattack. Their solid defensive form largely nullified United’s attacking efforts. Clear chances were few and far between for both teams, and the score remained level at 0-0 heading into the break.
The managerial instructions at half-time were likely to focus on finding a breakthrough for United, while West Ham looked to maintain their defensive resilience and perhaps threaten more offensively. The second half promised more attacking intent from both sides.
West Ham broke the deadlock just five minutes into the second half, sparking celebrations at the London Stadium. In the 50th minute, Jarrod Bowen sent a precise ball into the area, which Tomáš Souček received with conviction. He guided his header past the keeper, putting the Hammers up 1-0.
Manchester United immediately pushed for an equaliser, increasing their intensity. Diogo Dalot was shown a yellow card in the 57th minute for a clumsy challenge as frustrations began to mount. Moments later, in the 63rd minute, Casemiro thought he had equalised, but the goal was correctly ruled out for offside following a VAR review, denying United.
Both coaches introduced new legs to influence the outcome of the game. For United, Leny Yoro and Benjamin Šeško entered the fray, with Šeško replacing Matheus Cunha in the 69th minute. West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes was shown a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct in the 70th minute, adding to the tension in the match.
The game entered a period of intense pressure from the visitors as the clock ticked down. In stoppage time, United finally found their breakthrough. In the 96th minute, a quick move saw Bryan Mbeumo provide a crucial assist for substitute Benjamin Šeško, who fired home to secure a dramatic 1-1 draw for Manchester United.
Statistically, Manchester United controlled possession with 65%, but managed just 9 shots in total, with 3 on target. West Ham recorded 7 shots in total, and also found the target 3 times. West Ham topped their expected goals (xG) of 1.03, while United’s xG was lowest at 0.62, highlighting their late fortunes.
The hard-fought draw sees Manchester United stay in fourth place, although they will feel they have dropped two valuable points in their pursuit. For West Ham, a vital point against a top side provides a much-needed boost in their ongoing fight to avoid relegation.
