India to host New Zealand for 3 ODIs after T20 Women’s World Cup 2024

India will host the New Zealand Women’s team immediately after the conclusion of the ongoing tournament ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Both teams will lock horns in the three-match ODI series.

All three matches of the series are scheduled to be played in Ahmedabad. The first game will be held on October 24, while the second and third games will be held on October 27 and 29, respectively. The series is part of the ongoing ICC Women’s ODI Championship 2022-25.

The series was originally scheduled to take place last year. However, it was postponed due to the heavy schedule of the Indian team. During last winter’s busy schedule, the Indian team played one-off Tests against England and Australia. A number of players also participated in the WBBL just before that.

India and New Zealand players to miss WBBL games:

Both teams are expected to be at full strength as Championship points are at stake. As a result, a number of big names from both sides are set to miss at least the first few rounds of WBBL 2024. The WBBL is scheduled to start on October 27, the same date as the second ODI between India and New Zealand. .

A total of six Indian players will ply their trade in the WBBL this year. The cast includes Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Smriti Mandhana, Shikha Pandey, Hemalatha Dayalan and Yastika Bhatia. Soon after the WBBL ends, Team India will also face Australia in a three-match ODI series from December 5 to 11.

Meanwhile, India have secured automatic qualification for the 2025 ODI World Cup as hosts. On the other hand, New Zealand is ranked sixth in the standings of the 10-team ICC Women’s ODI Championship. They have won only eight out of 18 ODIs so far and will be desperate to do well in the upcoming series.

Apart from India, the top five finishers in the ICC Women’s ODI Championship will qualify for the tournament. The remaining four teams will have to play qualifying games for a place in the world championship.

India and New Zealand recently played against each other in the T20 World Cup. New Zealand won the game very easily to get their campaign off to a great start. They defeated the Women in Blue by 58 runs.
