Both Si Woo Kim and Nicolai Hojgaard are putting on a clinic with their Callaway drivers in very different ways this week.
The pair head to final round at the WM Phoenix Open tied for second at 12 under, one stroke behind Hideki Matsuyama and are third and fourth this week in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee.
Kim is doing it by leading the field in driving accuracy with over 80 percent of his fairways, while Hojgaard is doing it with a mix of distance (T22, 320 yards) and accuracy (T12, 67%). The different ways they play require wildly different driver setups, but the common denominator is that both players recently switched to different versions of Callaway’s new Quantum Triple Diamond platform.

As we wrote two weeks ago in Tour reportFinally Kim gave up Paradym Ai-Smoke Triple Diamond the driver he had held for the past two seasons.
“It was almost plug and play,” said Callaway Tour Content Manager Thompson. “I mean, there wasn’t a lot of work that was done with Si Woo. He hit a few shots and he was like, ‘This thing is great,’ and literally that was it.”
Kim isn’t one of the fastest players on Tour, so he’ll take any significant speed boost he can get. It also lives at the higher end of the spin threshold, which makes killing spin as much of a priority.
That’s why you see him playing the more compact Triple Diamond model as opposed to the Triple Diamond Max.
The launch line was also important in getting Kim to switch from Ai Smoke, which is why you’ll see below in his specs that he carries the back weight on the heel side of the club to encourage a left launch line.
With the new driver, Callaway Tour representative Kellen Watson said Kim added about 2 mph of ball speed and shortened his spin delta to just 400 rpm. They wanted to switch to the PGA Tour’s RSM Classic last fall, but the driver wasn’t yet on the conforming list.
“He liked that we went back to AI Smoke’s topline and crown, and he liked the address look and the sound,” Watson told GOLF. “Easily one of my favorite player/caddy combos. The hardest part is getting him to not play the new thing yet, but the numbers let us know it was a no-brainer.”

Nicolai Hojgaard
Meanwhile, Hojgaard is riding high on the PGA Tour’s speed ladder, already ranking second in ball speed this season after finishing third in driving distance a year ago.
His transition to the Quantum Triple Diamond Max driver took a little longer, but he made the move this week and it’s paying off.
For all his speed, Hojgaard plays with more stability and spin (high 2000s) than you might imagine. It uses a high rise Triple Diamond Max, which is the more durable of the two Triple Diamond rigs, with a Fujikura Ventus TR Blak that is just over 45″.
“While this may be more efficient from a distance perspective, this higher spin setup gives it ultimate control,” said Callaway Tour representative Zach Smith. “He’s still hitting close to 190 with the triforce technology, so he’s not taking anything away from the pitch.
“Nico has one of the most efficient deliveries on the tour, and has a lower spin loft through the bag, always doing it at the end of the spin, so we’re always working to increase his ability to control the ball.”
He also plays the Chrome Tour X+ golf ball, which is a more prominent version of it Chrome X tourwhich, along with the higher driver, gives it a nice combination for control.
