Inter Milan hammered Sassuolo 5-0 with Federico Dimarco leading the way with a hat-trick of assists.
Inter Milan proved their title credentials with a dominant performance at the MAPEI Stadium, consolidating their position at the top of the Serie A table.
The league leaders arrived in red-hot form. Sassuolo, in the 11th, looked for a crucial upset at home.
Inter quickly gained control and opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Yann Bisseck headed firmly home from Federico Dimarco’s accurate cross.
The visitors doubled their lead in the 28th minute as Marcus Thuram slotted the ball past the keeper after another exquisite delivery from Dimarco.
Sassuolo briefly thought they had found a lifeline. Kristian Thorstvedt had his effort ruled out for offside after a VAR review in the 41st minute.
Inter entered the break with a comfortable two-goal lead, having dictated the pace of the match. Sassuolo faced an immense challenge to salvage anything.
The second half began with Inter immediately extending their lead. Lautaro Martínez launched a powerful shot into the net in the 50th minute.
The momentum increased even more in Inter’s favor four minutes later. Manuel Akanji scored the fourth goal for Inter, who once again benefited from a sublime delivery from Dimarco.
Sassuolo’s afternoon went from bad to worse at the same time. Midfielder Nemanja Matic received two quick yellow cards for unsporting conduct in the 54th minute, resulting in a red card and leaving his side with ten men.
With a significant advantage and a man advantage, Inter made several substitutions. Piotr Zielinski and Alessandro Bastoni entered, keeping the pace high.
Inter are not finished, pressing for a fifth goal. Substitute Luis Henrique made a superb shot in front of the defenseless goalkeeper in the 89th minute, completing the thrashing.
Inter’s statistical dominance underlined their performance, with 62% possession and 23 shots in total, 11 on target. Their xG of 2.59 significantly eclipsed Sassuolo’s 0.78.
