Arsenal dominating at the Emirates as Gyokeres double secures vital three points.
Arsenal asserted their dominance at the Emirates Stadium with a 3-0 Premier League win over Sunderland. Striker Viktor Gyokeres was the hero, with a late brace to seal a crucial win for the league leaders.
The Gunners, sitting at the top of the table, looked to extend their lead in the hotly contested title race. They faced a resilient Sunderland side, positioned in the top half, looking to cause an upset and go higher.
The game started at a competitive pace, with both teams looking for openings. Arsenal defender William Saliba received the first yellow card of the game in the 26th minute for a challenge in midfield.
Sunderland responded with physical play as the half progressed. Midfielder Habib Diarra was booked in the 39th minute. Just a minute later, Brian Brobbey was also booked for a rash tackle.
Arsenal finally broke the deadlock just before the break. MartÃn Zubimendi, a striker from midfield, expertly fired home in the 42nd minute. Leandro Trossard provided the incisive assist, splitting the defense with a clever pass.
The Gunners took their narrow one-goal lead into the break. The Sunderland manager faced the task of rallying his side to find an equalizer and challenge the league leaders in the second half.
Coming back after the break, Arsenal kept control of the pace of the game. Mikel Arteta’s side pushed forward, patiently building attacks and trying to double their lead.
The breakthrough came midway through the second half. Viktor Gyokeres, showing his predatory instincts, extended Arsenal’s lead in the 66th minute. He tucked the goal home after a smart assist from Kai Havertz, providing a vital cushion.
Sunderland pushed to get back into the game, making several tactical changes. However, Arsenal’s defense remained resolute, limiting the visitors’ chances. David Raya in goal made key saves to deny any potential Sunderland comeback.
As the game entered its final moments, Gyokeres completed his impressive brace. He scored his second goal in the 90+3 minute, assisted by Gabriel Martinelli. This late strike emphatically confirmed Arsenal’s overall victory.
Statistically, Arsenal dominated 51% of possession and had 14 shots in total, with three hitting the target. His clinical finishing was evident, scoring three goals with an Expected Goals (xG) figure of just 0.58. Sunderland, on the other hand, managed five shots, three on target, but failed to convert from their modest 0.17 xG.
This impressive 3-0 win cements Arsenal’s grip at the top of the Premier League table, moving them closer to their title aspirations. Sunderland, despite their spirited efforts, remain in a respectable eighth position.
