Guillermo Maripán’s spectacular header salvaged a point for Fiorentina in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Torino.
The Estadio Artemio Franchi witnessed a spectacular comeback on February 7, 2026. Fiorentina, battling relegation to 18th place, were in desperate need of a result. Torino, sitting 13th, were looking to improve their patchy form after a string of defeats.
Fiorentina started the Serie A match with great intensity, eager to take control. Their early pressure paid off in the 26th minute as Cesare Casadei opened the scoring, deftly guiding the ball into the net after a precise pass from Emirhan İlkhan.
The home team continued to dictate the game for much of the first half. Torino struggled to create clear chances against a resolute Viola defence. Valentino Lazaro and Dodô were shown yellow cards as the challenges intensified before the break.
Fiorentina held a narrow 1-0 lead as the teams headed to the dressing rooms. The Torino manager certainly demanded a stronger performance from his men in the second half. The stage was set for an unpredictable and engaging final 45 minutes.
Torino came out of the half as a transformed team, playing with renewed attacking momentum. Manor Solomon equalized for the visitors in the 51st minute. He got a composed finish after receiving a well-weighted assist from Rolando Mandragora.
Just six minutes later, Torino completed an impressive turnaround. Moise Kean found the back of the net in the 57th minute, taking advantage of a clever pass from Jack Harrison. The quick-fire brace left the home crowd stunned and Fiorentina suddenly ahead.
Fiorentina responded immediately, making a number of substitutions to inject fresh energy into their attack. They climbed higher up the pitch, seeking an equalizer with increasing urgency. The match became increasingly physical and disjointed as both teams fought for every ball.
As the clock ticked down in stoppage time, desperation was closing in on the hosts. However, Fiorentina won a crucial corner. In the 94th minute, centre-back Guillermo Maripán got up strong and headed home from Gvidas Gineitis’ delivery, sending the Franchi faithful into raptures.
The statistics painted a picture of Fiorentina’s offensive effort. They controlled 55% of the possession and fired 21 shots in total, with 5 on target, against Torino’s 12 total shots and 4 on target. Fiorentina’s expected goals (xG) stood at 1.58 compared to Torino’s 0.88, highlighting their attacking intent despite needing a late rescue.
This spectacular 2-2 draw saw Fiorentina take a single point, keeping them afloat in their battle against the drop. Torino will rue letting a two-goal lead slip away so late on, missing the chance to climb further up the Serie A table. The two teams now face crucial games ahead.
