Mohamed Atawi Goes WR 1000m at Meeting Indoor Madrid (February 6, 2026)

Editor’s Note: My last visit to Madrid Indoor was in 2019 and it was magical. Great crowd and some fantastic performances in an intimate setting.

Attempting the 1000m world record should be fascinating, but also don’t discount the excellent women’s field in the 1500m. RunBlogRun i:Very excited to go to this European indoor meet.

We look forward to interviewing Mohamed Atawi, who was 5th at the Paris Olympics in 1:42.08 and fifth in Tokyo in 1:42.21.

Mohamed Atatoui focuses on Ayanleh Suliman’s 2:14.20 world record short track time at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden (February 17, 2016).

Number two on that list. Josh Hoy, USA, sets an American record with his 2:14.48, set on January 18, 2025 at the Outdoor Center in Philadelphia, USA.
