Derek Chisora has confirmed that Deontay Wilder is next, and the Usyk fight has been scrapped. Chisora confirmed it talk SPORTS: “That’s what I’m hearing, I’m waiting for the phone call to happen,” he said when asked. Pressed again, he turned his camera and nodded.
This battle has been going on for weeks. A December plan fell apart earlier, and Wilder spoke publicly about chasing Usyk. That road is closed for now. London in April replaced it, and the heavyweight division moved around it.
“Yes, I will fight anyone. A good number and a good contract and I will fight,” Chisora said. The venue came next. “Deontay and I would be amazing, somewhere like Tottenham. That would be the idea.” For Wilder, this is a necessary stop. He’s 40, coming off shaky performances, and needs a win that means something without walking straight into a champion. Chisora fits that spot. He is familiar, durable and still capable of dragging fights into rough exchanges.
Why Wilder Needs the Early Finish
Chisora knows how others will label and argue this pairing. “People can call it a setup battle for Usyk, I don’t care,” he said. Then he broke off the actual fight. “For Wilder to win, he has to knock my lights out,” Chisora said. “If he can’t do it by round ten, I can beat him.” This is not empty talk from someone who has spent over a decade in heavyweight fights.
Wilder will try to control space early on and land cleanly. Chisora will crowd, lean and force sustained contact. If Wilder can’t close the fight before his legs slow down, the balance tips towards Chisora’s output and inside work.
What Usyk still means without signatures
Usyk is still sitting past this fight, even without dates or signed papers. Chisora talked about it without pretending to be in control. “If the fight with Deontay happens, and the winner gets to fight Usyk, that would be amazing,” he said. “When I make things happen with that, I’ll let you know.” Chisora had already fought Usyk early in the Ukrainian’s heavyweight run and remembers the physical test more than the result.
