If you played golf in scotland ago, then you know the unique joy of golf as a public good.

And from UNIQUE joy, we mean mainly one thing.

Dogs.

Because nearly all of the country’s golf courses are open to the public for use, our furry friends are EVERYWHERE – meanders through open roads, traversing rough roads and, on rare occasions, entering the game’s melee.

This last part turned out to be especially important for THIS Saturday morning in Scotland, where annual Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is entering its third game day after a short hiatus … and covered in fur.

The situation began on Saturday morning in Carnoustie, where the former Wales football superstar Gareth Bale he was playing in a foursome in the morning. Bale had just made a wonderful chip from a dune at the edge of the green, watching his ball roll down the slope and stop just a short distance from the hole.

Things stayed that way for a few seconds, until chaos erupted on the green. Entering the stage from behind Bale, an unexpected visitor arrived, a puppy, and there was only one item in his sights: Bale’s ball. The dog chased the golf ball, plucked it from the ground and ran away with the ball in its mouth, to the delight of several dozen fans watching the action closely.

Thankfully, the ball was eventually picked up and under the rules of golf, Bale was allowed to replace his ball where it was. BEFORE the puppy came

However, those in the crowd at Carnoustie were given a sharp reminder that linksland obstacles are unlike anything else in the world.

Sometimes they even walk on all fours.
