
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) they strengthened their backroom structure up front Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season by determining old Rajasthan Royals (RR) wicketkeeper-bat as their new pitching coach. The move signals KKR’s intent to sharpen its fielding standards as the franchise builds a formidable support staff full of former internationals and IPL stars.
KKR appoints ex-Rajasthan Royals player as on-field coach
It should be noted that KKR has been appointed Distant Yagnik as a field coach. Yagnig brings with him deep experience in the IPL ecosystem. During his playing days, he represented Rajasthan in domestic cricket and took wicket in 25 IPL matches between 2011 and 2014. Despite his limited appearances, Yagnik was widely regarded as a hard-working professional with sharp technical awareness, especially behind the stumps.
After retiring from competitive cricket, Yagnik easily transitioned into coaching. Over the years, he has worked closely with players on the fundamentals of agility, catching efficiency, shooting accuracy and goalkeeping. His methodical approach and attention to detail earned him respect among the franchises, making his appointment at KKR a natural progression in his coaching career.
Strengthening KKR’s revamped backroom team
At Kolkata Knight Riders, Yagnik becomes part of a newly assembled and highly experienced supporting cast. The franchise has invested heavily in building a leadership team dominated by ex-players who understand the pressures and demands of elite T20 cricket.
The general structure is led by the head coach Abhishek Nayar, with the former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo acts as a mentor. Australia is great Shane Watson Hired as assistant coach, New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee will oversee the bowling department.
It is to add a unique dimension to the installation Andre Russelltook over the newly created role of Power Coach after confirming his retirement from the IPL as a player. Russell’s continued involvement underscores KKR’s commitment to preserving the franchise’s identity and culture.
