Diogo Jota helped Liverpool take the lead in their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, but the Portuguese star spurned the chance to make it a brace after missing from close range.
The Reds dominated the Eagles for the opening 45 minutes of the game at Selhurst Park and went in front after just nine minutes when Jota latched onto a Cody Gakpo through ball.
Going into the break, it wouldn’t have been unfair for Arne Slot’s men to start the second 45 minutes 2-0 up, but Jota wasted a great chance to do so.
Ryan Gravenberch picked out the striker in the Crystal Palace box and despite having time and space, the 27-year-old was unable to connect properly with the ball.
TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher couldn’t believe the Liverpool star’s uncharacteristic action, prompting him to say: “How has that been missed.”
Jota has been in fine form for the Merseyside club this season and despite his easy miss, he continued his run on Saturday afternoon.
