The Kenyan secured the final podium spot ahead of Great Britain’s Patrick Dever at last year’s New York City Marathon.
2021 New York Marathon champion Albert Korir has been suspended by the Department of Athletics Integrity.
Keyan, 31, who has climbed the podium five times over 26.2 miles in the Big Apple, tested positive for the banned substance CERA.
CERA stands for Continuous Erythropoietin Receptor Activator and is a third generation erythropoietin (EPO).
It is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency because it enhances athletic performance by increasing the production of red blood cells, which improves the blood’s oxygen-carrying capacity and endurance.
CERA gained global attention after advances in anti-doping science enabled laboratories to detect it using sophisticated blood analysis techniques.
The trio of riders, Ricardo Ricco, Moises Duenas and Manuel Beltran, had a positive result during the 2008 Tour De France.

Korir is a marathon specialist and has competed in 20 races over 26.2 miles, with six wins and 15 podium finishes.
His biggest win came at the 2021 New York Marathon, where Korir ran 2:08:22 to finish just one minute ahead of Morocco’s Mohamed El Arabi.
“Korir” climbed the podium in New York four more times. He set a personal best of 2:06:57 at the 2023 edition, trailing only reigning Olympic marathon champion Tamirat Tola.
Last year he was third. Finishing just over a second ahead of Britain’s Patrick Dever in the Big Apple.
Korir won last year’s Ottawa Marathon in 2:08:22 and has other wins in Vienna and Houston.
