Jacob Kiplimo is the King of Tallahassee Country

Uganda won the world senior men’s title from Berihu Aregawi and Daniel Ebenyo on Saturday.

After winning senior world titles in 2023 and 2024, Jacob Kiplimo made it a hat-trick of victories in Tallahassee, Florida.

Kiplimo successfully transitioned to a marathon last year, but he hasn’t lost his ability to run. Such was his dominance in Florida on Saturday, he began to celebrate in the closing stages as he pulled away from his rivals.

Treading various obstacles of water, sand, mud and ‘alligator alley’, Kiplimo completed the smooth but sun-drenched and challenging 10km course in 28:18 minutes.

Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi, perennial runner-up in major world races, was second again in 28:36, with Kenya’s Daniel Ebenyo third in 28:45.

East Africans took the top eight places, the top non-African was Thierry Ndikumwenayo, Spain’s reigning European champion, in ninth.

Much was expected of world 10,000m champion Jimmy Gresier, but he found himself finishing second to the Frenchman home as Ian Shrubb was 11th and Gresier 15th.

Other non-Africans to make the cut include Parker Wolfe of the United States at 12th and Adrian Wildscutt of South Africa at 14th.

Ireland’s Brian Fay also enjoyed a top 20 finish in 16th, just one second behind Gressier.

David Mullarkey was the top Briton in 26th with team-mates Matt Ramsden in 53rd, Jacob Cann in 71st and Rory Leonard in 79th.

Ethiopia won the team award ahead of Kenya, Uganda, USA and France as Britain finished 11th.
