Agnes Ngetić has won the World Cross Women’s crown

Kenya wins by 42 seconds from Joy Cheptoyek of Uganda and Senaeth Getachew of Ethiopia.

Agnes Ngetic produced a masterclass to win the senior women’s race at the world championships in Tallahassee on Saturday (January 10).

Ngetic, the 2023 Bathurst bronze medallist, pulled away from her rivals to win by about 250 meters as she tackled obstacles such as mud, sand and water over the 10km course.

The 24-year-old has run a 10km world record of 28:46 on the roads, and she looked just as comfortable here on the varied surfaces in Florida.

Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet was not here to defend her title, but she had her work cut out for her to beat the flying Ngetich.

With East Africans taking the top nine spots, the first non-African finisher was Edna Kurgat of the United States in 10th, Australia’s Lauren Ryan in 13th and Spain’s Maria Forero in 14th, also breaking through.

Megan Keith (John Napolitano/USA)

Britain’s Megan Keith was in 25th place from the leading British house.

GB teammate Poppy Tank was 29th, Phoebe Anderson 35th and Verity Ockenden 41st.

Ethiopia comfortably won the team prize from Kenya and Uganda as Britain finished seventh.
