What’s next for Brooks Koepka after him Surprise break from LIV Golf? Add LIV member Jon Rahm to the list of pros who aren’t too sure.
Rahm, a two-time major champion, was the guest this week Subpar podcast and discussed on Ryder Cupmain season 2026 and, of course, the biggest news of the past month – Koepka’s parting with LIV.
“I had an idea (it might have come) but more through him than the league itself,” Rahm said. “I don’t know what happened. I know he was dealing with some things off the golf course — I still don’t know what happened.”
LIV Golf released a STATEMENT from Koepka’s representatives that read, in part: “Family has always guided Brooks’ decisions and he feels this is the right time to spend more time at home. Brooks will continue to be a huge supporter of LIV Golf and wishes the league and its players continued success. Brooks remains passionate about the game of golf and will keep fans updated on what’s going on.”
Koepka won five times during his four LIV seasons. He also won the 2023 PGA Championship – his fifth major – to become the first active LIV member to win a major.
“I wish him the best; I’ve had some great times with Brooks on the golf course,” Rahm said. “Obviously the ’23 Masters (when they were in the final pairing), we were in that playoff in ’24 at the Greenbrier, going to the Ryder Cup a couple of times. He’s always fun to play with, fast, honest guy. I wish him nothing but the best. Obviously I wish he stayed and I could continue to play with him or in other events hopefully.”
Rahm was asked if he thought Koepka’s departure from LIV a year before his deal was up was a way for Koepka to serve a PGA Tour suspension before rejoining the Tour a year later.
“I have no idea,” said Rahm, who added that he would assume Koepka would continue to play some DP World Tour events. “I don’t know how it works; does he come right back? I don’t know.”
Koepka did not renew his PGA Tour membership after the 2022 season, so he would have to formally reapply to join, while also likely serving an indefinite suspension.
“He might need some time, but I think he would (return to the PGA Tour),” Rahm said. “He’ll probably play the minimum eventually I’d say why not the events he likes, the big ones if he can then get himself into high events or get into high events he’d play those too.”
