The Kenyan distance runner is facing a possible ban for possession/use of banned substances
Emmaculeth Anyango Achol, the second fastest woman runner in history over 10km, has been provisionally suspended for a doping offence.
The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said Anyango was suspended for testing positive for testosterone and EPO, which are banned substances.
That will remain in place until his case is resolved, with Anyango facing a four-year ban if found guilty.

The 24-year-old was widely regarded as a promising talent for Kenya, gaining attention after her victory at the 2023 Discovery Kenya Cross Country Championships.
The African U20 Championship 3000m silver medalist also came close to breaking the 10km world record in January this year. He set the second-fastest time ever in Valencia in 28:57, which was faster than the previous world record of 29:14 held by Yalemzerf Yehualaw of Ethiopia.
Anyango finished second to compatriot Agnes Ngetich, who set the current world record of 28:46. They are still the only two women in history to run under 29 minutes for 10km.
Anyango again finished behind Ngetich at the Kenya cross-country trials in March this year, securing his selection for the 2024 World Championships in Serbia, where he finished fourth individually and contributed to Kenya’s team gold.
Last season, he also finished second in the BAA 5km in Boston and the TCS World 10km road race in Bengaluru, India.
Despite these achievements, Anyango missed out on a place in the Kenyan team for the Paris Olympics after finishing sixth in the 10,000m at the Prefontaine Classic, where he clocked a personal best of 30:06.43.
