Almost 15 years later, Khawaja will once again take to the SCG in what he knows will be his last appearance in international cricket.

According to statistics, Sydney was Khawaja’s fortress. He has amassed 875 runs from nine Tests at the venue at an average of 87.50 with four half-centuries. Few Australian batsmen have achieved such an advantage on the historic field, which makes Cummins’ wish far from reality.

Khawaja carried that form into overseas conditions and was instrumental in Australia’s memorable 2-2 Ashes draw in England in 2023. He finished the series as the leading run-scorer with 496 runs, emphasizing his importance at the top of the order.
