Sri Lankan cricket star Mahesh Theekshana and his wife, Artika Yonalishared some happy news with their fans around the world. Just one year after their star-studded wedding, the couple took to social media to announce they were expecting their first child.
The announcement sent a wave of excitement through the cricketing community, with teammates, fans and franchises flooding the pair’s social media pages with “congratulations” and well wishes.
A new chapter for Maheesha Theekshana
The announcement comes at an exciting time, coinciding with the couple’s first wedding anniversary. Maheesh and Arthika got married on 17 January 2025 in a lavish ceremony at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo.
Taking to Instagram to share the milestone, the couple posted a series of heartwarming photos. One of the slides featured an ultrasound, which confirmed that the “mystery cheater” was about to take on his most important role yet – that of fatherhood.
“The end of Christmas, the beginning of the New Year and the best surprise to start our next chapter” Theeskshana wrote on Instagram.

From the cricket field to parenthood
2025 has been a whirlwind year for Theekshana. On the field, he cemented his status as one of the best white-ball spinners in the world, especially when he scored a historic feat. ODI hat-trick against New Zealand and high-profile moves Rajasthan Royals In the IPL. He was ranked No. 1 in the ICC ODI bowler rankings in February 2025. Despite these highlights, his T20I performance during the year has been an IPL high average of 39.20 and an economy rate of 9.76, suggesting some struggles with consistency.
Off the field, his partnership with professional cabin crew member Arthika has been a fan favourite. The couple have often shared snippets of their travels and life together, but this latest “adventure” — as they once hinted at their wedding theme — is undoubtedly their biggest yet.
