#The Journeyto Compete, Interview #7, Ethan Strand, SWOOSH Track Club.

Ethan Strand has a great sense of humor. besides being very fast!

On July 5, 2025, Ethan won the Prefontaine Classic International MILE in a PB of 3:48.6, surprising everyone but himself. Shortly after that race, the Duke University graduate signed with NIKE.

At the US trials for the 2025 world champs in August, Ethan interviewed me. He had just won his heat in the men’s 1,500 meters. Decked out in his NIKE uniform, Ethan Strand said, and I quote: “I’m undefeated in my professional career.” At the time, Ethan Strand had run two races as a professional athlete. He finished second behind Jonah Koch in the men’s 1,500 meters at the US Championships in 3:30.25.

Here is his first round interview at the US Champs.

Ethan finished 16th at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, held September 13-21, 2025. Ethan Strand made the men’s 1500m team.

Ethan has good speed. In the 800m he ran 1:51.08 indoors (Birmingham 2021. His 1500m is in August 2025, his PB is 3:30.25. In the mile, Ethan also ran well in Eugene, his 3:48.32 NC indoor record of 3:48.32 and 3:48 is a close 3,000m with his fine 7:30.15, Ethan has a good 5000m PB of 13:26.60 and his 10,000m of 29:43.42 is respectable.

Ethan now runs for the Swoosh Track Club, coached by Mike Smith.

In this video, filmed at NXR Southwest, I asked Ethan Strand, who I’ve called Eric a dozen times (sorry, Ethan), to give some advice to young high schoolers about cross country.

Ethan Strand ran 5:25.8 on Dec. 6, 2025 at Glendover Golf Course to win the USATF 2K title and lead the World Cross Country Medley Relay scheduled for Jan. 10, 2026 in Tallahassee, Florida.

Thanks, Ethan Strand for the interview.

Thanks to Rob Lotvis of NIKE for compiling the interviews for me.
