Ferencvaros vs Tottenham: Preview, predictions and lineups

An in-form Tottenham Hotspur continue their Europa League campaign in Hungary on Thursday night as they take on Ferencvaros.

Ange Postecoglou has Djed Spence to thank for sparking Spurs’ recent revival after the forgotten full-back drew Coventry in the Carabao Cup. Brennan Johnson won the cup tie for the Lilywhites and Postecoglou’s side now head into this game having won four on the bounce in all competitions.

They produced perhaps their best performance of the Postecoglou era so far on Sunday, wiping out a dreadful Manchester United side at Old Trafford in a 3-0 win. This came after a home win against Qarabag on the first day of the league stage, with Spurs having to play 83 minutes with ten men after the sending off of Radu Dragusin.

Ferencvaros were beaten in their league opener by Anderlecht last week and the Hungarian giants, who clinched their sixth domestic title on the bounce last season, are expected to be among the poorest in the competition on this occasion.

They have made a strong start to the season after another busy summer, but Pascal Jansen’s side are likely to find it difficult to pick up points in the Europa League.

here it is 90 minutes guide of Ferencvaros vs Tottenham.

The hosts have a relatively clean bill of health heading into this match, with Cebrail Makreck the only injury doubt.

Jansen shuffled his pack for Ferencvaros’ triumph over Puskas Akademia at the weekend, with several players expected to return to the starting eleven for the visit of Tottenham.

Hungary international Barnabas Varga got the nod last week against Anderlecht, but Jansen could opt for summer arrival Matheus Saldanha, who scored 16 league goals for Partizan Belgrade last season and has started the national season in good form, above.

Ferencvaros predicted the line-up against Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Drawing; Botka, Cisse, Szalai, Ramírez; Abu Fani, Romans; Kady, Zachariassen, Traore; Saldanha

Radu Dragusin

Dragusin is suspended after being sent off last week, but Postecoglou may recall Cristian Romero. The Argentine was sent off for the win against Qarabag after seeing red during Tottenham’s previous European match against Milan at the start of 2023.

Micky van de Ven will have to partner Romero with Ben Davies forced to replace Destiny Udogie at left-back. The Italian took a hit at the weekend.

Wilson Odobert and Richarlison remain on the sidelines, while Son Heung-min is unlikely to be a risk. Mikey Moore could make his first competitive start for the club on the left.

Tottenham predicted lineup against Ferencvaros (4-3-3): Vicar; Gray, Romero, Van de Ven, Davies; Bissouma, Sarr, Bergvall; Johnson, Solanke, Moore.

Although Ferencvaros are only expected to fight for a place in the top 24, they will not be a problem on Thursday evening.

Tottenham teams have struggled in competitions of this nature time and again over the years and it would be no surprise if a rotating squad endured a familiar fate in Budapest.

However, Spurs have impressive strength in depth and Thursday’s squad should be loaded with stars desperate to prove something to the manager. Postecoglou has done an excellent job of making sure his entire squad is on board with his principles, not just his strongest XI as was the case with previous managers.

A consistent Tottenham side should win all three points on the road.

Prediction: Ferencvaros 1-2 Tottenham
