Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes’ three-match ban has been overturned by the Football Association after upholding the Red Devils’ unfair dismissal appeal.
Fernandes was sent off shortly before half-time in United’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur after catching James Maddison on the knee, although replays showed the contact was minimal and Fernandes did not no harm after clearly falling when he did the challenge.
united They were unhappy with VAR’s decision not to overturn Fernandes’ dismissal and lodged their appeal with the FA, who have now confirmed the midfielder’s ban has been lifted.
“Bruno Fernandes will be available for Manchester United’s next three games following a successful wrongful dismissal claim,” a club statement said.
“The midfielder was sent off for serious foul play during the Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday 29 September.
“Fernandes missed our league games against Aston Villa, Brentford and West Ham but will now be available for selection following the successful appeal.”
Facing the media after the matchFernandes revealed that even Maddison himself confessed that it should not have been a red card.
“Other than going in, I don’t take it the way everybody wants to see it,” Fernandes said. Sky Sports.
“I don’t go with the studs, I take it with the ankle. It’s a clear foul but never a red card. That’s my feeling. Even Maddison, when he stands up, is in the picture… he just goes say: “It’s a foul but it’s never a red card.”
