The Indian national cricket team scored a memorable seven-wicket win against the Bangladesh national cricket team in the second and final Test. After the victory in Kanpur, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team achieved a feat that no other team has achieved in the 147-year history of Test cricket.
Only 35 overs were bowled in the first three days due to bad weather. A draw was the most realistic outcome, but India have thrilled the Kanpur crowd and fans across the country with their approach over the last two days. On the fourth day of the match, they bowled out Bangladesh for 233 runs in just one and a half sessions.
The home team broke several records before declaring their first innings at 285/9 in 35 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 72 runs off 51 balls with 12 fours and two sixes. Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma, who scored 23 runs, added a 55-run stand in just 3.5 overs on the fourth day of the match.
The middle-order batsmen continued their aggressive approach against the Bangladeshi bowlers. Shubman Gill (39), Virat Kohli (47) and KL Rahul (68) made important contributions with the bat. India scored at a rate of 8.22 runs, making it the fastest Test innings among teams to score over 200.
India entered Day 5 after Bangladesh dismissed two players on Day 4. They bowled out Bangladesh for just 146 runs and chased down the target of 95 runs in the 18th over with seven wickets in hand. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the top scorer of the team with 51 runs from 45 balls including 8 fours and a six.
Rohit Sharma’s India Scored Rare Test Cricket Success
India scored 7.36 runs in both innings, setting a new record for the highest run rate ever achieved in Test history. This is the first instance of any team scoring at a run rate above 7 in both innings. The previous record was held by South Africa in 2005 with 6.80 points.
Virat Kohli was not out with 29 runs and Rishabh Pant sealed the win. India won the series 2-0 over Bangladesh. This win boosted India’s chances of reaching the final of the World Test Championship. India next face New Zealand at home in a three-match Test series.
