All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan had a disappointing performance in the final Test innings as he was dismissed for a second-ball duck. Shakib came into bat as the last recognized batsman in Bangladesh’s No.7 batting line-up.
However, his stay was short-lived as he failed to contribute to the team’s run. Ravindra Jadeja hits a fly ball outside off and finds some turn. The ball stopped for a moment before coming to the bat.
Shakib was beaten and had to check his shot at the last moment. But he could only get the ball back to the bowler Jadeja, who reacted quickly to catch his bowling well. Jadeja, known as a perfect fielder, would never give up such catches.

Shakib Al Hasan was visibly disappointed after his dismissal and couldn’t believe what he had done. It was probably his last Test innings and Bangladesh needed a top cricketer to stay at the crease for a long time.
Unfortunately, it didn’t happen and he had to go. Shakib did not have a great Test match with the bat as he was dismissed for just 9 runs in the first innings. With the ball, however, he took four wickets and finished with 4-78.
Shakib Al Hasan announced his retirement
Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan had announced his plans to retire from Test cricket before the start of the second Test in Kanpur. The pundit said the Test series against South Africa at home would be his last Test assignment.
However, South Africa is yet to confirm visits to Bangladesh due to security concerns in the country. It is also unclear whether Shakib will visit his homeland, given the murder allegations against him and his association with the Awami League party that was ousted from power a few days ago.
Shakib was a member of parliament in the Awami League government led by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina. But the government collapsed and Sheikh Hasina had to flee the country for her life. Since then, there have been brutal attacks on party members and sympathizers in the country.
Available for ODIs only
Shakib Al Hasan also said that the 2024 T20 World Cup was his last T20I assignment and he will not play any T20I match thereafter. This means that the legendary all-rounder will only be available to play ODI cricket.
Shakib Al Hasan is a high profile name in Bangladesh cricket. He is easily the biggest name in the history of Bangladesh cricket and has achieved numerous records as an all-rounder. Shakib has the ability to contribute immensely with both bat and ball, making him a very important player for Bangladesh.
Before the Kanpur Test, the left-hander had played 70 Tests and scored 4,600 runs at an average of 38.33. With the ball, he took 242 wickets at an average of 31.85.
