“You don’t suffocate S* – Haney goes to bed”

Brian Norman Sr. gave his reaction today to Devin and Bill Haney’s plans to neutralize WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr’s offense, predicting that Devin will “go to sleep” in Riyadh on November 22nd.

The ambitious, driven Haney (32-0, 16 KOs) is looking for his third division world title in the last six years since 2019. He faces his toughest test to capture a belt, against Norman Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs). This is a more formidable obstacle than how Haney has won his world titles in the past:

  • Regis Prograis (December 9, 2023) – WBC light welterweight title
  • George Kambosos Jr. (June 5, 2022) – WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring Lightweight titles.
  • Elevated to the WBC lightweight title on October 24, 2019

The “Box, Hold, Move” Blueprint

Norman Sr. says Haney’s plans of boxing, holding, moving, twisting and choking will be effective against Brian Norman Jr. on November 22.

He declares that Haney cannot “hide” in the ring because he will eventually catch up with him. Can Haney really be a pressure fighter like Norman Jr. survive without power to hold him off? It’s going to be next to impossible for Devin to stay there for the full 12 rounds with the poor power he’s shown in his recent fights.

Haney says he’s gotten bigger and stronger in the build-up to 147 for this fight against Norman Jr., but that doesn’t sound realistic because he appears to be the same size in his last fight against Jose Ramirez on May 2, 2025, and he couldn’t land a punch in that contest. Therefore, he was forced to move continuously for 12 rounds.

“This is a personal message to Devin Haney. Bill Haney and Devin Haney, ‘We’re going to turn him over. We’re going to choke him. We’re going to run from him. We’re going to box him. We’re going to hinder him,'” Brian Norman Sr. said. social mediaresponding to some of the previous comments made by Devin Haney and his father, Bill Haney, regarding the November 22nd fight against Norman Jr.

Haney has no choice but to run, hold on and try to choke Norman Jr. He doesn’t have the strength or the chin to fight him traditionally like he did when he fought smaller fighters at 135.

Devin doesn’t have the size advantage he used when he melted down to lightweight to face much smaller opposition. He faces a guy with natural power on top of what Ryan Garcia showed in his destruction of Haney on April 20, 2024.

“You can’t hide in that ring”

“This is what I have to tell you. We’re going to do it all. We’re going to hide in the ring. We’re going to hide outside the ring. You can’t hide anywhere. November 22nd, baby. Everybody has a plan until they get hit in the mouth. You don’t turn s***. You *** don’t ***. You *** don’t ***. go to sleep,” Norman Sr. said.

The specter of Ryan Garcia’s left hook

Devin is going to have to fight back to avoid being knocked out. What happens when Norman Jr. cut the ring off? Does Haney have an escape plan beyond holding on? Against Jose Ramirez and Ryan, Devin had no other plan but to hold on when he was stuck. This is how he got hurt against Ryan because he repeatedly snapped at him when he would reach out to hold. This became his #2 defensive strategy behind the move to escape against punchers.
