Retailers pay more for merchandising
You can see from the list above how the estimated trade-in value can vary, but many retailers offered similar prices. The 2nd Swing was notable for having the highest value for the PING driver, coming in at almost $15 higher than some others. Interestingly, 2nd Swing advertises on their website that they have the highest trade values in the industry, so make of that what you will.
Most listed retailers reached around the $280 trade-in value, including Golf Galaxy, DICK’S Sporting Goods, Global Golf, Worldwide Golf and TaylorMade. Golf Worldwide was the only one with “up to” $280 language, leaving us to guess what the real value might be.
Don’t neglect the manufacturers
You may be surprised to see Callaway Golf and TaylorMade listed as options since we were trading a PING driver for this scenario. However, both of these manufacturers (along with others like Titleist and PXG) allow trade-ins from almost any brand of golf club.
The caveat of working with companies like these is that you can usually only use the trade-in value to purchase new equipment from the manufacturer you are trading with.
Retailers can only pay store credit
Similar to listed manufacturers, some retailers may only offer a trade-in value in the form of a store credit. This means that whatever trade-in value you see, you will only use it for a purchase with them and not cold, hard cash. GolfNow is an example of this, where you can only use trade values for purchases on the GolfNow site.
Some retailers, such as Golf Avenue, will be hit trading value if you use it for a store credit instead of getting paid. If the retailer offers something else worth buying, then that could be a tempting incentive for you.

Before you enter any information on a retailer’s website, you can check The Blue Book of Golf page to find typical market value. of The PGA of America Value Guide is another solid source for fair market value. Many retailers rely on these sources and use them to set their prices, which is why you’re not seeing wild swings in trade value from one retailer to another.
