ancient West Ham Midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has expressed his concerns about the club’s lack of leadership and strong personalities after spending time with the squad during their pre-season training camp in the United States under new manager Julen Lopetegui.
Reo-Coker, who watched the team closely during their preseason preparations, highlighted a lack of leadership within the squad, which he believes is affecting their performance.
Reo-Coker: Leadership issues affecting performance
talking 5 live from the BBCThe former midfielder shared his concerns:
“You know what my biggest worry is (about West Ham)?
“I spent a bit of time with them this pre-season when they were on tour in America, and I think when I look at their performances now and all the change and what’s going on, my biggest concern is the lack of characters that I have. seen there, especially with the way things are going.
Reo-Coker acknowledged that while players like Jarrod Bowen have the potential to step into leadership roles, the burden can be too much for one player. He added:
“To me, Bowen is someone who can be a character and a personality, but I think it’s too much for him to do on his own right now.”

West Ham’s tough start to the season
West Ham have had a difficult start to the season under Lopetegui. Despite spending over £100m in the summer transfer window, the team have struggled so far.
With just one win in the Premier League and two in all competitions, they currently sit 14th in the table with just 5 points.
Their defeats, despite coming against stronger opposition in the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Aston Villa, have raised concerns about their overall performance levels.
With Lopetegui aiming to revitalize the squad and guide West Ham back to winning ways, addressing the team’s character and leadership issues will be crucial.
