Everyone wants more power in their golf swing (including yourself). With more power, the game becomes just one LESS easier.
The problem is, there’s no magic pill you can take to add more to your pace. If you really want to step up your game, you have to be willing to work.
Speed training AND improved fitness are two of the most common ways you can increase your power, but you can also follow a third method – improved technique.
In the following video, GOLF Top 100 Teachers Brian Mogg explains a simple adjustment you can make to your swing that will help you improve your technique and add ease to your game.
A swing tweak for more power
To create power, you need to produce the right load in your movement. And one way to do this is by hanging your wrists correctly.
“These wrists are a huge source of power in movement,” says Mogg. “I see so many golfers drag it, putt late, drop it and wonder why they don’t hit it hard enough.”
The answer is usually that they don’t know how to hang their wrists correctly. So how can you properly hang your wrists? Mogg has some advice.
“You feel like your thumb is pointing up (during the backstroke),” says Mogg. “You feel like the grip is pointing down. You feel like you’re creating some creases in your backhand. All three of those things make for a really effective way to swing.”
When you get your wrists on the backswing, the clubhead will start to feel light. And with a light head, you’ll be able to unload it and unleash some serious power.
“You golfers out there want to hit it farther?” says Mogg. “You have to charge your wrists.”
Do this and you’ll discover power you didn’t even know you had.
