Ravichandran Ashwin takes part in Mohammad Shami vs Ajit Agarkar fight

Ravichandran Ashwin took a sharp dig at Ajit Agarkar’s experience of smoothly complimenting the tenacity shown by Mohammed Shami and not clarifying the players with his decisions and practice of ‘indirect delivery’.

The Indian national team faces some opposition in the form of its players, after which many were kept out of the election without any proper explanation. Among the controversies, one of the most famous was Mohammed Shami’s foul received on India’s chief selector Ajit Ajarkar.

Agarkar has repeatedly claimed that Shami is not at the top of his fitness and will be selected for the team after he makes a comeback with full fitness. Shami rejected such claims and proved his fitness time and again.

“Everything in Indian cricket works on indirect speech,” said Ravichandran Ashwin

Legendary Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has retired from the game but never fails to give his take on the game on his YouTube channel. Recently, he said that Indian cricket has a massive issue that needs to be addressed.

He made it clear that everything in Indian cricket is working in recent times with his untouchable speech by pacer Mohammad Shami, who won the Champions Trophy recently. He urged the BCCI to make its thoughts and plans clear to the players.

“I will say one thing clearly, everything in Indian cricket works on indirect speech. I would like something worthwhile to change. Both from the players’ side and the selectors’ side,” Ravichandran Ashwin said while speaking on YouTube.

“So why is (Shami) talking about all this?” – ravichandran ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin added that such performances stem from a lack of clarity on any issue and Shami also does not seem to have much clarity on his position in the Indian team.

“If it’s not something I’m paying attention to, it’s what someone who knows has said about it.

But despite pointing out Shami’s lack of clarity, he praised AjIfar who offered to clarify word by word with Shami in a phone call.

“But at the same time, I really loved how AJIT Agarkar worked. I really hope the phone call happened,” he said.

Will Mohammad Shami be considered for selection after a strong Ranji Trophy comeback?

Since then, the bowler has been held back by injuries as well as a poor IPL season, as Mohammad Shami last played for India in the Champions Trophy 2025, where he took 9 wickets in 2025, the joint-highest with Varun Chakravarthy.

He recently made a comeback in the first round of the Ranji trophy for Bengal. He picked both the innings and bowled Beharan and Behlini in a promising eight-wicket win over Uttarakhand. Shami recorded figures of 3/37 and 4/38 in the game.

A follow-up to such a prospect, the pressure is now back on the Indian selectors ahead of the upcoming home series selection against South Africa. The 35-year-old is back in contention for a place in the National side.
