According to a recent report, the 36-year-old Indian national cricket team Batting legend Virat Kohli is very much in the scheme of things for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.
The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 has been hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. South Africa will play 44 matches across eight venues, with Zimbabwe and Namibia playing the remaining 10 matches.
Virat Kohli on India’s 2027 World Cup plans
The wait for the return of the goat – Virat Kohli – to international cricket is about to end very soon. He will don the Indian jersey for the first time since 2025 in the upcoming series against Australia.
A daily dose of cricket!
On Sunday, October 19, the Odi series opener between India and Australia will be played in Perth and the next two games will be hosted by Adelaide and Sydney on October 23 and 25.
Kohli is the only format player at international level to retire from T20I Cricket in 2024 and retired from T20I Cricket earlier in the year. As very few 50-plus matches are played these days, the presence of Odi player Virat Kohli has significantly reduced.
At 36, Kohli is still at the peak of his fitness and has received huge support from former cricketers to extend his ODI career and has given himself a shot at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.
However, BTCI president Ajizar Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir hinted at an uncertain future for Virat Kohli and urged him to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) in the next 50 to keep him in contention for the world cup.
Recently, BTCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla said that Australia will not have a farewell series for Kohli and the Board’s best source for Cricket in India, a major source of Modern Warfare, said that the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 is very much in the scheme of things.

We were literally dying and he cuts one or two and runs – Australian Bowler on Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has scored 2451 ODI runs against Australia starting at an average of 54.46, 1327 runs in 29 years at 51.03 in 29 years.
Speaking on a podcast shared by Cricket.com.au recently, Kane Richardson recalled Kohli’s ODI match in Hell in 2017 at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, Kolkata, as it took life hell for the girls to fuel.
“I remember (Matthew Wade) holding it so hot. And he’s like, ‘I know,’ and I’m still sitting there.
“When the ball hits him, he just goes up. We’re like dying and he cuts one or two guys and runs it like he’s on a treadmill in conditioning,” he said.
Richardson added that the Aussies were so tired and Kohli, on the other hand, was on another level fitness wise. He said:
“You talk to everyone who was there that day – there are images of kids wearing ice neckties and no one has any color on their faces. It was complete silence because if you didn’t get a wicket, no one had energy.”
“It wouldn’t be something that would stick with a lot of people in terms of being the most high-profile. But I just remember that it’s a whole different level of being the person that I am.”
