The IPL 2025 mega auction is expected to be held overseas in the third or fourth week of November. The venue is expected to be in the Middle East, with Doha, Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia all expressing interest in hosting the event..

Last year’s IPL auction was held at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. Australian pacer Mitchell Starc became the most expensive player in the history of IPL auction. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured him for Rs 24.75 crore. The retention rules for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction are yet to be revealed.

IPL Governing Council to be held on Saturday, September 28 – Report

According to Cricbuzz, the IPL Governing Council will meet today to finalize the new retention rules for IPL 2025. An official announcement regarding these rules is expected to be made within the next 24 hours or on Saturday. The official decision is expected to be announced after the meeting.

“The IPL Governing Council meeting is scheduled for Saturday (September 28). If sources are to be believed, it will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bengaluru at 11.30 am,” said a Cricbuzz report.

“Convening the IPL GC on Saturday was a last minute decision as notices for the meeting were sent to members only on Thursday. One can always expect an announcement after the meeting.”

The report added that the IPL GC is expected to discuss the retention policy. The board will also decide on the date and venue of the upcoming IPL 2025 mega-auction. However, there is a perception that the decision could be brought before the all-important body, which is meeting in Bengaluru on Sunday.

BCCI may allow five retention per franchise for IPL 2025 Mega Auction

There is a lot of speculation about player retention for the IPL, with numbers ranging from 2 to 8. BCCI is likely to finalize around 5 or 6, including the Right to Match (RTM) option. In July, the BCCI met with the IPL team owners to discuss various issues related to the league, including retention issues.

The current IPL format, introduced in 2022 with the addition of two new teams, has 10 teams each playing 14 games in the league stage.. But not all teams compete against each other twice. A total of 74 matches will be held in the tournament, including playoffs and final matches.
