Is the Cruz vs. Roach fights a PPV value?

A fight between the WBC-TUs-Light Welterweight Champion Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz and Lamont Roach is in the works for pay-pervention for December 6 or 20. PBC is reportedly working on the fight, which will be a possibility with Texas.

Is this battle ppv-worthy?

Surprisingly, PBC plans to make Cruz against ROACH as the main list on PBC, as it is only for Cruz’s WBC-Tus-Title of 140 pounds. Fans will not be happy to pay to see two fighters fight for an interim band on pay-pervention. Unless the bottom map has been piled up, this event may not produce many ticket sales.

And Rafael is reporting that the Cruz-Roach battle is planned. Roach (25-1-2, 10 food) will go up from lightweight to challenge ‘Pitbull’ for his WBC-Tus-Title title of 140 pounds. Roach, 30, is still riding high of his 12-round majority stretch against Gerrvonta Davis earlier this year on March 1.

Light welterweight contenders smeared

There is no word why Roach is used, rather than one of the contenders in the top -15 ranking of the WBC on light welter weight. It would make more sense to have one of these fighters shoot on Cruz’s interim band:

Alberto Puello
Sandor Martin
Lindolfo Delgado
Adam Azim
Oscar Duarte
Kamaine ortiz

WBA title collects fabric

The WBA has not yet stripped Roach of its Super Featherweight title. His last defense of the title was 15 months ago and beat Feargal McCrory by an eighth round technical knockout on June 28, 2024.

I’m sure the contenders in the top 15 of the WBA are upset at 130 at the moment, while Roach (25-1-2, 10 COs) freezes his title while going and collecting salaries from the division at lightweight and now light welter weight.

WBA’s actions under fire

The WBA must take action to free the belt if Roach sits on the title without defending it. The sanction bodies should have a rule that champions automatically strip that are temporarily moving up or down in weight to get pay days because it is not fair to the contenders. Their careers are suspended while Roach runs the sections above for wallets.

Cruz (28-3-1, 18 Kos) won the WBC-Tus-Title on July 19, 2025 and beat Omar Salcido with a unanimous 10 round decision. The scores were 100-88, 99-89 and 99-89.
