control each week For the unjustified thoughts of our writers and editors as they break down the hottest themes in this sport, and join in the conversation by tweeting us to us in @golf_com. This week, we discuss the biggest stories of Ryder Cup, who is the most important player for each side and chooses a winner.
After two years of waiting, the Ryder Cup week is finally here. US team is waiting for Europe at Bethpage Black In Long Island, Friday to Sunday, as Europeans will try to win two in a row and be the first road team they won after doing so in 2012. A lot to unpack here, but let’s start with a light: What is your main scene for the 45th Cup?
Josh Sens, elderly writer (@Jossens) :: The over-the-the-atmosphere of the Ryder Cup is not a new story but as Our man Alan Bastable explained In a fun part a few days ago, this week will get things at a completely different level. The potential for expulsion that flows into ugliness seems mature, which is related to what I think is another important topic: on paper, at least, Europeans seem to be a little stronger team. But playing a game away makes them submissive, who removes pressure and accumulates Americans. In this sense, it is right to ask ourselves if you have a home crowd behind them and all the expectations that come with it can work against Keegan and Co. How the dynamic one does or does not play will be essential for the end result.
Josh Schrock, news editor (@Schrock_and_Awe) :: I agree with the sense. I think Bethpage’s crowd will surely get the highest billing as the 1A story scene that enters a week. I will offer how Rory Mcilroy ends a year with history. He filed three goals to reach the rest of his career in January and overthrew one with his mastery victory. After a past summer in Malay, Mcilroy won Irish Open And now it can end the year by bringing Europeans to a distant victory. Very interested in seeing how Mcilroy exalts his game this week.
Alan Bastable, Executive Editor (@alan_bastable) :: The importance of the experience in Ryder Cups is probably overrated, but it is difficult not to meditate on the rookies on both sides: four in the US team (Ben Griffin, Russell Henley, JJ Spaun, and Cameron Young) vs only one in the European team (Rasmus Højgaard). For the US team to prevail, at least a couple of those newbies will have to rise in this case. Have a dirty doubt Cameron Young will embrace the moment, and not just because he is the only New Yorker on the team. You know he can hit him, but now he has also understood how to put it (he is 5th in SG: setting this season). Keep an eye on the CY.
Once had magic: an ode when the Ryder Cup was not a series of explosions

After winning in Rome in 2023, Rory Mcilroy said winning a Ryder Away Cup is one of the greatest achievements of golfadding, “And that’s what we’ll do in Bethpage.” He has since added a title of Masters and career Grand Slam to his resume. Wold what would a Ryder Cup win in Bethpage for Mcilroy’s legacy?
Sense: I consider Ryder Cup’s heritage a special category. Think about Ian Poulter, whose individual career is no different, but who will come down forever as a killer of Ryder Cup. Or, conversely, Tiger Woods, the less than impressive record of Ryder Cup does nothing to reduce his status in the game. At this point, Rory’s legacy looks quite determined. A prevailing week in Bethpage can add a pleasant glow to it, especially if he attracts something heroic like scottie scheffler beating in Sunday bachelors for the clinking point. However, with this, I do not expect this week to change how future generations think about it.
Schrock: I mostly agree with the sense, but I think if Mcilroy runs the euro in a win by playing all five sessions while collecting 4-5 points, it will be another critical line in the resume he is building to become the best European golf player of all time.
Basic: Rory is already in the air rarized Ryder Cup. But a huge load this week would elevate it to an even more elite company. Three points would move it in front of Jose Maria Olazabal on the list of points of all time. Four would tie it to Nick Faldo. Four and a half would tie her to – gasp! – Seve. But, beyond, this week can affect Mcilroy’s individual status in register books, he is definitely burning for a period of victory. As mentioned above, in some cases this year he has reminded us that winning a road game ryder is one of the most difficult tasks in all sports. If Europe somewhat attracts it, Rory will declare the 2025 largest undisputed season of his career.

Who is the most important player – if not necessarily the best – for each team?
Sense: Mcilroy for Europeans. He is not only the best player in the team, but he is also the visible leader of the team room. How that tariffs will be infectious for the rest of the team. The American team is a different story, I think, because the best player, Scheffler, is not a Rah-Rah boy. I don’t see it being as much a bell as mcilroy. I think the main players for the US are Rookies Ryder Cup like Ben Griffin and JJ Spaun – excellent talent that are completely unproven in an environment like this.
Basic: No love for Bryson?! If Dechambeau can get it, he has the potential to electrify American fans in a way that none of his teammates can match. The problem is, he has not been in high shape. I am intrigued to see what version of BDC we will see. On the side of the euro, Bobby Mac can end up being MVP that no one saw it coming.
Americans will win if…
Sense: … Rookies like Spaun and Griffin stay in the crucible, and Patrick Cantlay bothers the opposition enough to remove them from their game.
Schrock: … Justin Thomas, after a poor start in Napa, Reawakens. I expect Scheffler to play well, especially after the egg he placed in Rome. But Thomas was the heart and soul of the Americans when they have prevailed. They will need the thomas pairing and cantlay-Schauffle to help lead, along with Scheffler.
Basic: … KEEGAN BRADLEY Reviews, throws one of his rockers and adapts to his first match on Friday. I baby! But yes, as covered, some of the US novice will have to show absolutely. Scheffler will need to earn at least 3.5 points. And Sam Burns will have to bring his putter.
Which means that Europeans will win if…
Sense: … Mcilroy takes them to a hot start and builds the moment. The pressure is really for Americans here. They are expected to ride Homefield’s advantage for victory, but there is nothing easy to need to drain a significant blow in front of a big crowd whose hopes are riding so vocal over you.
Schrock: … Rory does things Rory. When he is clicking, they are difficult to defeat.
Basic: … Jon Rahm antagonizes crowds and Tommy Fleetwood Charms’. (And each collects at least 3 points.)
Bethpage’s return of Keegan Bradley is unlikely? 1 road tells his story of Ryder Cup

What will be the most important strategic decision that every captain will have to make?
Sense: In addition to choosing the captain’s election, I think the importance of a captain’s decisions is overestimated. They have already studied personalities and analytics. They know, at least in theory, which players should come together. The most important roles of the captains are to choose the lists and create an atmosphere/culture that allows their players to play the best. It looks like Bradley and Donald both have done it already. As always, this will come in which boys make big butter.
Schrock: For Americans, it is the one who plays with Bryson Dechambeau. Given that he and cam Young play the same prototype ball, it will seem to be the right pairing, but I’m interested in seeing how Keegan Bradley decides what should be one of his best weapons.
Luke Donald said he planned to mix things from Rome, but I have a difficult time seeing fourth couples that were not Rahm-Hatton, Hovland-Good, Mcilroy-Fleetwood and a fourth. I am interested in seeing if Donald changes things on day 1 or to tear his proven couples that prevailed in Rome to begin.
basic: Hate to harp Rookies, but managing them will be Keyegan’s most difficult task given that they represent one -third of his team. For Donald, he will keep his sons not shocked by the respiratory galleries by the fire. If his team can block the noise and get comfortable early, look out.
And Drumroll, please … Who will win the Ryder 2025 Cup and why? (And gives us a result!)
Sense: This ends in a tie, 14-14, with the Cup holding Europeans.
Schrock: Europe 15.5-12.5, thanks to a return Sunday. Fleetwood beats Bryson to catch the victory out.
Basic: Dare do you make a pure European cleansing? I dare! Europe 14.5, USA 13.5, in a thriller for ages.
