Eddie Hearn believes that Terence Crawford’s inactivity is one reason why he chooses Canelo Alvarez to defeat him Saturday night at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Promoter Hearn mentions that Crawford (41-0, 31 COs) last fought against Israil Madrimov in 2024, 13 months ago, and before that, he was still inactive for 13 months when he fought against Errol Spence in July 2023. So Bud had two fights in two years in Saturday’s fight against the Super Middeweight champion.
Hearn says he thinks that Crawford is too confident and too sure he will come through this battle and get another win. He does not say why this is the case, but it may have something to do with how defeatable Canelo looked in his last fight against the IBF superweight champion William Scull, on May 3, 2025. Hearn points out that Canelo looked ”unmotivated ” and “Old” In that fight.

Spence was just a cap of the fighter he once was when Crawford fought him. We saw that he was not the same fighter in Errol’s two battles after his abominations on October 10, 2019, Crash or His Ferrari.
The losing formula
In my opinion, the sparring during that time is not nearly enough to prepare Crawford on what is before him against Canelo. He should have fought twice in the Super Middleweight section if he wanted to be ready for the heavy shots he went to work against Canelo on Saturday night.
Hearn says he doubts that Alvarez will start fast on Saturday by fighting aggressively. He points out that Crawford is an excellent counter-puncher and has feet to make things difficult for Canelo if he decides to come out.
Hearn states that if he was Crawford, he will focus on the first half of the fight on outlets, the use of movement and frustration to bank funds. It is clear that the approach would be boring for the supporters who look at Netflix at the Allegiant Stadium and at home.
It probably won’t please Turki Alalshikh either, as he pays Crawford a reported $ 50 million. If Terence has run the ring and fought a negative battle by “frustrating”, it would not be entertaining to look at the 60,000+ fans at Allegiant Stadium and Netflix viewers.
