Memphis Depay recorded his name in the story of Dutch football last week, surpassing Robin Van Van to become the highest scorer in the Netherlands with his 51 and 52 goals.
To mark the milestone, Puma has joined the striker to create the MD51 Ultra, a limited edition design that tells the story of his journey both on the part and off the pitch.
Built on a white base, the boots have contrasted colors: one in blue and black to reflect family, faith and culture, the other in orange and black to capture their football triumphs. Details include his famous lion tattoo, number 10, tributes to his Ghanase roots and a look at his mother, Cora.
But fans will not be able to copy them. There are only 51 pairs, each of the people who shaped their lives, from family to mentors and intimate friends.
“I was a young man with great dreams; a puppy became a lion on the biggest stage,” said Depay. “To become the highest male scorer in the Netherlands is a true honor … I wanted to celebrate -giving a special testimony to my gratitude to the people who helped me on the way.”
For Depay, it’s less about drops and more about a personal thank you. And for everyone else? Another reminder that the man with the lion on his chest now roars the strongest in the history of Dutch football.
