A unification fight has mocked
With the WBO Super Featherweight Champion Navarrete, 30, who access the ring for a face-off with Nunez, it indicates that Eddie Hearn of the match room may be planning a unification battle between them.
Navarrete (39-2-1, 32 COs) still has to encounter Charly Suarez in the WBO-ordered Rematch to clean up the controversy of their fight earlier this year on May 10. The fight was stopped due to a cut over the left eye of Navarrete which was initially decided that it was decided by a casual main collision in the sixth round. If Navarrete conquered in the re -broadcast with Suarez, a unification with ‘Sugar’ Nunez would be ideal.
‘Sugar’ Nunez, 30, did not beat impressive on Saturday night. 14 IBF Diaz. He absorbed very heavy shots of Diaz and rated in 12th place. The judges gave Nunez the victory with the wide scores of 117-109, 117-109 and 116-110. While the fight did appear nearing as the scores submitted, it seemed that Nunez had done enough to earn the win.
Nunez’s vulnerable victory
Nunez looked vulnerable throughout and showed little power compared to Diaz. It was hard to believe that Nunez had such an impressive knockout record, although he was not a big puncher. Tonight’s struggle showed that ‘Sugar’ Nunez is a high volume puncher in the William Zepeda form, but is not equipped with its size or power.
Hearn has to decide what is the best option for Nunez’s next battle, as he looked a lot against Diaz. It would be a mistake to fit Nunez against #4 Raymond Ford. Ford has too many skills and is likely to defeat him.
If Hearn wants Eduardo to hold on to his IBF title for as long as possible, he must forget about Navarrete. It would be a too difficult struggle for him.
