Former Religion talks about the status of combined events in the UK, how to help the athletes help learn many skills and mentors
Talented Dekatlet, Ashley Bryant, has been leading the qualities of leadership from an early age and the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team at the World Junior World Championships. Katie Barden writes.
In 2020, retiring from competition, 34-year-old man rises and the Wells Athletics Chairs and the Combined Events Program, is now a coach for a group of athletes, including Wales Hetatlon’s record holder.
The 2014 Cooperation Games The silver medalist is only one of the British athletes, which has reached more than 8,000 units of points.
How did you enter coaching?
I always knew I was going to a coach. I didn’t want to train while I was still a athlete because I knew how claiming it would be. Maybe it’s my personality or elite sport in general, but when I do something I or I want to be at all.
When the Olympic Games held in Tokyo were postponed because of pandemics, I had to ask myself. “I do another year.” At that moment, I would rather help Mili * than train myself, so I decided to stop. We had the Olympics and comprehensive household games (Birmingham 2022) that would be cool around it, but it was right at the right time, so I walked.

I was asked to train the first athlete. I talked to my old coaches and they convinced that they would change my mind, and I am glad that I did.
I’m very lucky to get to the right place at the right time, and I have already trained a few talented athletes, more than a minute decatlon, but I think the event is right now.
* Ashley is married to Melissa Courtney, many Welsh Recorder and a 3,000-m silver medalist.

How would you describe the current status of combined events in the UK?
It’s complicated. We consistently have Hepthletes qualified and wins medals in the junior championships, from the younger level to the elderly. We have no one in the world champions next to the boys, and more often, we have young chiefs that qualify for age group championships. They have very few and far away from Daley (Thompson) and Dean (Macy) so innate that it is not necessarily very well going for Decathlon, but very good work is going on. There are good people who do good things, but do they expect enough drastic changes to start a big group of break? I don’t think so.
He does better with what we have is not going to work until we get better talents in the decatlon. That is, this year’s depth is the best for some time. It’s great to see that multiple boys score 8000 points and I think some can push and have a really large quantity, but that’s because we’ve had success. Unfortunately I think is lucky and it’s really sad that’s so.

What are the special challenges facing you?
Heptthlon and Decathlon are very different events. We tend to bring the right athletes to Heptathlon, but it doesn’t always happen to the decatlon. Dechatlon depends on speed, and in general, British decorations are very slow and very small compared to the best of the world. It’s not so long until he sees the elite Decathletes approach you realize how big most of them are.
I see a very young talent on 10-year-old athletes who are fast and can jump well at a young age, but they never go to how they don’t happen yet.
On the boys’ side it is going to make structural changes. We need more coaches, more coaches education, more talent and development system that supports and accompanies young talent and coaches through Decathlon’s learning journey.
In connection with that, we do not have to train the basic principles of many measures in this country, so we spend too much time, not the basics needed for athletes.
I look at me, and I was not an unique athlete. I had really good events, but knowing what I was doing now and what I was my tools, I was never good to do what Damien (2020 Olympic Davian expert Damien) did. Even if I had an elite guidance from a young age, I could never get to that level. But what I know now, I will return and I have to train my training in many other ways at a young age. I could avoid injuries and make the most of my odds.

Combined coaching events require expertise in a number of subjects. Your preference coordinated the coaching coaching team or handing over a coach yourself.
I give myself to all coaches, but I mean that is, I will always try to do the best for my athletes and my personal development. For example, I have my former coach star (Moore) on my door so I use his experience and experience as much as possible. A winter aston, my side was on my side of my long jump sessions as part of his mentoring, or I would sit down and to videos with him. I want to learn as much as possible by the coaches with his experience.
Many of the best athletes in the world have one head coach, and they ship most of the training, but different people enter and engage in. As early as 2023 2023 Championships and Paris (2024 Olympic Games) in Budapest, Aston was taking me to Prime Minister Katarina Johnson-Thompson. It was great to be involved in the process and played a role in his Olympic medal at this early career point.
(Former British Athletics Coach) Charles Van communities were also involved. He led and manilinged me through training his shot, and although I delivered 90% of the training (for his shot, his own education for his shot.
Another reason for the coach is that the coordinating parts are very difficult, especially when young athletes are not in an elite sports environment. For example, a young child who passes through many coaches as combined events is very difficult, because it is a hobby, not full-time jobs. People are busy, times are not always working, and it is very difficult to organize a group of people.
Although it seems that it is difficult to learn to train seven or 10 events, there are many fundamental leaders that take good things in the board, it will translate it everywhere. I think that’s what I really enjoy getting on a coaching side is the event of an event and how you pull it all together. My athletes will hear me that they made a very good decision. For example, how many answers are you doing? You can write something on their plan, but when you are at this point and watch how the session plays, how do you adapt and change things everything? I’d like to think that it is one of my biggest strengths.

Who has been your greatest coaching effect?
I have conversations with so many people and have a large coaching network I speak to a few people.
Aston, Scott Simpson, Benke Blomquist and Rob Denmark – Who in Mount I was in my career at the end of my career, when I first started with coaching. They all train in different ways, so I was mostly trying to take the best bits from them. I was very lucky for those guys and their influence and contribution, because I started training, it’s the key to me.
In addition to a long jump, one of my best events was Javelin, but just because I was good at Javelin I’m a good Javelin coach. There was a piece of real education for me. Tips I feel like I’m learning at university in the last few years, and I really enjoyed that side.
What do you say are the characteristics of a good coach?
The best coaches have excellent knowledge and program that provides what they are trying to achieve.
At the top of that, the best coaches just know how to get the best of people and make the right decisions. They know when to push, and when they keep their athletes back, something that is especially important in combined events.
I remember when I met John Hills in 2013, he really opened my eyes to shoot and clearly perform the professional training. When I moved to Loffboro and worked with some coaches I already mentioned that the same thing happened again in other events.
That’s why I like to be supercomputed on details. I like to teach my athletes event and what we are trying to achieve, then try to train it as simple as possible. I think it’s important that you understand what you are trying long runs then try to take small parts on the road.
