The WBC has sat Serhii Bohachuk (24-1, 23 costs) Back in as number 1 at junior middleweight. Promoter Tom Loefler pushed the case and won the appeal Jaron “Boots” Ennis (31-0, 28 food) announced a move to 154, but didn’t actually fight there.
That decision means that Bohachuk is in line again for a crack at the champion Sebastian Fundora (21-1-1, 13 costs). But before that happens, he has to deal with a little old business – a new Rematch of September 13 with Brandon Adams on the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford Undercard. Adams held him back in 2021, and many fans have not forgotten it yet.
Why it matters
It’s not just paperwork. Bohachuk’s entire career rides what happens next. Loeffer argued that guys who are already fighting at 154 should be just talking about it, and the WBC agreed.
The sanction body even had on the Ali Act In his statement:
“The WBC’s Judgment Appeal Committee received the appeal and resolved in accordance with the provisions of the Muhammad Ali Bok Reform Act …”
It sounds nice, but at the end of the day, none of that will matter if Bohachuk can’t jump the result against Adams. Lose again and the No. 1 place goes straight into the bowl.
Fundora’s side of it

A battle with Bohachuk is the classic mix: size and volume against relentless pressure and knockout. Bohachuk has 23 stops in 24 wins – He doesn’t come to Box well, he’s going to break you down. On paper, someone is hurt.
So for EnnisHe is now focused on 154 and maybe 160. The child is a star going on, no doubt. But the WBC is right – you do not become number 1 in a section in which you have never fought. For now, Bohachuk is the one who holds the ticket.
Take me: Credit to the WBC here. They are usually hammered for dodgy rankings, but this time they made the fair call. Bohachuk was active, patient and consistent. Ennis gets his chance, but he has to earn it on weight first.
The right drama is September 13th. If Bohachuk beats Adams, Fundora-BoHachuk is a fan-friendly scrap: height and uncomfortable angles versus pressure and strength. If Adams pulls it out again, Bohachuk’s number 1 label will be marched overnight.
