Confidential Tournament: Who should Keegan Bradley choose with Ryder Cup’s captain’s choices?
Golf editors
Bradley’s The biggest dilemma will be Whether or not he chooses to choose himself to be the first captain to play since Arnold Palmer in 1963. Bradley looked like a safe choice after he won the traveler championship in June, but a scratched form placed him in limbo. A T7 end this week in the tournament championship may be enough to allow Bradley to choose himself.
The US captain opened his eyes on Sunday when he told Todd Lewis of Golf Channel that there will be “some boys” who think they will be in the team but will not.
So let’s get into the contenders and if they have to be (and will be) in Bethpage Black in September.
Possible locks
Justin Thomas
Patrick Cantlay
Thomas ended the seventh point and performed well on Ryder Cup (record 7-4-2). Thomas is a fundamental part of Team USA and found his game after falling in 2023 and 2024. For DataThomas ranks fifth in PGA Tour this season in real strokes won (+1.69 per round). This traces only Scheffler, Rory Mcilroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Henley. If you add liv golf numbers, it also traces Jon Rahm, Bryson Dechambeau and Joaquin Niemann. However, Thomas has now been a Top-10 player for almost a full calendar year. He will be in Bethpage.
While Cantlay failed to win at PGA Tour this season, he ended up in sixth place in the true shocks won, shortly after Thomas, and has a 5-2-1 record in Ryder Cup. It has been the 11th best America in the stroke won over the last three months and the best ninth during the last six.
It’s probably in the team but maybe it doesn’t have to be
Collin Morikawa
Morkawa was hot to start the season and had the Arnold Palmer invitation to his syllable before Henley ran it over the last holes to make the trophy. Since that loss in Bay Hill, Morikawa has only two endings of Top-10. They came to players and Rocket Classic. In Major, Morikawa was a non-factor, going T14-T23-cut into the biggest events.
There is also the fact that he had the worst season of his career this year, it is not a great course for Bethpage and his level of trust is not the same as his shackles.
“It”s weird, but I feel like my handcuffs have to be improved,” Morikawa said Sunday after the Tour championship. “I know my numbers from a numeric kick obtained look good, but I have to be able to open 15 tee here and aim at the left edge of the water and know that the ball is never going there.
Despite all this, it feels like Morikawa, a great champion twice with Ryder Cup’s experience, is likely to be in the team. But maybe he is part of the chaos Bradley promised Lewis.
KEEGAN BRADLEY MAKES BIRDIE NO 18 In Tour Championship
Should be in the team but may not be
Ben griffin
Griffin has been one of the top 10 American players this year. He won Charles Schwab Challenge, combined with Novak to win Zurich Classic, ranked 11th in PGA Tour in real shocks won, and has been the third best American over the past three months. Griffin had two Top-10 conclusions in diplomas and posted 12 Top-15 conclusions on his last 14 starts.
Everything shows that Griffin is a worthy selection, but he would be a rhythm of Ryder Cup and Bradley is expected to want to bring a group of veterans to Bethpage Black. Bradley’s claim to Lewis that people waiting to be in the team will not be in doubt the status of Griffin, but he must be in the team.
Should be in the team but can only have room for one
Cameron Young
Sam Burns
Young has returned his season in recent months. During his last eight starts, he has five five-five ends, including a win in the WynDham Championship. He has been one of the best PGA Tour decisors this season, it is a great course for Bethpage and has good history in the course, winning New York State 2017 Open there as an amateur. Young has the right length to be a weapon in Bethpage and its improved placement will be a help in the game. New has been the best of the best American in strokes gained over the past three months.
Burns was a poor Sunday in Oakmont (and some bad holidays) from the US Open. He is the best holder for strokes won this year, and we already know that he joins Scheffler as a pairing. He has been the six best American in the stroke won over the last three months and the eighth best during the last calendar year.
In a year in which the captain was not thinking of recovering, young people and burns would have a good chance of making the team. While standing now, if Bradley chooses yourself, there is a chance that only one of them will make the journey to New York.
Keegan Bradley’s Ryder Dilemma? It comes down to 1 simple question
Dylan dethier
Needs help
Maverick Mcnealy
McNealy had the best year of his career. He made 20 out of 24 cuts, posted seven ends of the Top-10 and was the competitor to the Invitational Genesis. It ended the 10th in the points rankings and was the 25th in the PGA Tour in real strokes. But he did not win, he would be a Ryder Cup novice and would not go to any of the diplomas (T32-T33-37-T23). Maybe it won’t go to McNealy way.
You want chaos?
Jordan Spieth
Rickie Fowler
Neither Speach and Fowler have played well this season well to collect serious interest. But for an outfit that is often addressed to the players in “Boys Club”, Spieth and Fowler are at least on the outskirts of the radar.
Fowler has been the 12th best American over the past three months, for blows. it played well in two events in Play off He qualified and finished T14 in Open. But his Ryder Cup record is not good (3-9-5) and he does not rank within 30 best in any real metric blow for the whole season. It won’t happen.
Spieth made the Ryder Cup his goal after returning from handwriting operation. There were some good moments but Play was contrary to the best case And the conclusions were spectacular. For strokes obtained data, Spieth has been the 11th best America over the past 12 months, but this should not be enough to put it in the team.
And yet, the crazy things have happened.
He will do it
KEEGAN BRADLEY
Bradley accepted his decision whether or not he would choose himself to be the first captain to play since Palmer has weighed on it. At the Tour championship, Bradley said he wanted him to call Palmer to seek advice on what to do.
“I think no matter what decision I make here, I could have gone to the other side, no matter what,” Bradley said after finishing T7 in the field of 30 men in the tour championship. “The only thing I care about is on the Ryder Cup Sunday, for us to win Ryder Cup. Then I will know I made the right decision.”
In front of his T17 at the BMW Championship with 50 men, Bradley had not had the first 25 since his victory in the travelers. He ranks 10th in PGA Tour in true shocks won this year and is the sixth in Tee for Green. He has been the best American seventh, for blows won, in the last three months and the fifth best in the last calendar year.
It is a big decision, but as our Dylan dethier wrote, Bradley Just have to answer a question to put yourself in the team.
prediction
Justin Thomas
Patrick Cantlay
KEEGAN BRADLEY
Collin Morikawa
Ben griffin
Cameron Young
While I think Griffin’s place is in real danger, I will put it in the team. Morikawa will make it back. Bradley will choose himself and get young as the 12th, leaving Burns at home like the boy of the bubbles he lost.
