Devin Haney says he is interested to train Andre Ward. Haney (32-0, 15 food) prepares him for a title shot against WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. On November 22 at the Anb Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Can Ward Haney help against Norman Jr.?
Ward’s fighting style during his career was similar to how Devin fought. There is not much to separate the two. If you add Ward, Haney can implement more tricks to neutralize the power of the larger punchers at Welterweight, such as Norman Jr..
Ward’s specific defense tactics
- Potshots: Single shots followed by a dive forward to hold
- Regular clinic
- Mauling: Wrestling in the clinic to tire his opponents
- Jabbing
- Movement
Haney, 26, was trained by Shane Mosley, his father, Bill Haney and Nate Jones for his last fight against Jose Ramirez on May 2. Devin won a wide 12-round decision, but was criticized by fans for his first-fighting style.
Shortly after the performance, Turki Alalshikh implemented its Tom and Jerry mandate. Some fans believe it was the result of Haney’s Jerry-like effort, involving constant movement and regular strokes.
How Ward beat the heavy hits
Again, the retired former World Champion World Champion Ward of two divisions during his career had similar elements to the one used by Haney.
These were elements that Andre used to defeat the Big Punchers, Sergey Kovalev, Mikkel Kessler and Carl Froch. It was fighters with excellent power and offensive skills to depart. But with his negative fighting style, he overcame their benefits to defeat them. It was never nice to look at, but Ward achieved the victories.
This is Haney’s first fight at full weight for the 147 pound division, and he goes against what many fans believe the most difficult puncher in the division, Norman Jr. (28-0, 22).
The Ryan Garcia effect on Haney
The way Devin performed in his last battle against Jose Ramirez earlier this year, many people believed he was Shell shocked From his 12-round majority decision-loss to Ryan Garcia a year ago on April 20, 2024. Devin looked shyly and used a lot of movement against veteran Ramirez in their fight on Times Square in New York
“I don’t know if he (Andre Ward) is going to train me or not. We talked about it. I have never trained with him before, ‘Devin Haney told the Ring Champs channel About his interest in training with Andre Ward. “He’s not a coach. He is a (former) fighter. We have never seen him work with anyone. We saw him give tips to people. Yes, he has been retired (for eight years since 2017).

Haney’s thoughts on training with Ward
“We’re talking. I’m not going to say whether Andre is going to train me or not. We talked about it, ‘Haney said he was trained by Ward. “I don’t know. We need to get into the gym to see if it works. I worked with Vergil (Hunter) when I was little. ‘
Hunter was Ward’s coach during his career and helped him lead to two World Championships division as a pro. Ward’s fighting style would learn with Devin’s because it is one designed to defeat stronger fighters.
With Haney’s co -rate of 46.88%, he did not show himself a large enough puncher to deal with the powerful welter weights in the division. By adding Ward to his training team, Haney will help avoid being beaten to the ring, as supporters in his three knots defeat to Ryan Garcia saw in 2024.
“It would be crazy. It came through someone who knew us, Kevin Newman,” Haney said. “So they talked about it (trained by Andre Ward). And I was like ‘Are you sure he wanted to work with me? And he was like “Yes, he said that he would be open,” If I’m interested. I was like ‘man, are you sure?’ Because I’ve never seen him (Ward). Haney said and responded that he told Akin Reyes of Ring Champs that fans would be excited to see how he was trained by Ward.
Ward’s experience with other fighters
The 41-year-old former World Champion with two divisions (32-0, 16 COs) helped former IBF Super Middleweight Champion Caleb Plant prepare for his undisputed 168-pound championships against the then WBA, WBC and WBO champion Canelo Alvarez on November 6, 2021.
